Description

The Fund cultivates and supports efforts to bring about social change that moves humanity toward a more just and compassionate coexistence. The Fund focuses its grantmaking on social justice for marginalized communities and, in particular, on elevating the voices and leadership of people from those communities. The Fund awards grants in the following programs: Justice with Dignity and Lifting Voices of Resistance. Grants in the Justice with Dignity program supports work to reduce U.S. society’s dependence on incarceration and expose and challenge human rights abuses of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people. Justice with Dignity seeks to reduce the number of people incarcerated; eliminate the death penalty; and promote safe and healthy communities by engaging those harmed by crime and/or most affected by the criminal justice system. Lifting Voices of Resistance grants aim to challenge the scale of resources devoted to the military budget as well as support vulnerable communities already impacted by systemic violence that are being targeted even more heavily than usual. Lifting Voices grants fund programs that seek to end U.S. military interventions in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other nations; protect and defend the rule of law in national security and foreign policy, and reduce the size and mission of the U.S. military and redirect resources to promote healthy communities, justice, and peace.
