The Wiregrass Foundation
Category: Regional
DescriptionThe Foundation seeks to make a difference in three zones of interest: health, education, and quality of life, in Houston, Henry, Dale, and Geneva counties in southeast Alabama. The Foundation funds health programs with the objective of promoting healthy behavior and improving access to healthcare. Grants in the education areas focus on K-12 student success with an emphasis on improving success in Dothan city schools. The Foundation also works to improve education beyond K-12 by strengthening area pre-K opportunities, enhancing college access and achievement, and assisting with innovative pilot projects. Quality of Life grants seek to produce a rising standard of living (including increased income, assets, and economic security), build civic engagement, and promote effective organizational leadership. The Foundation’s approach to philanthropy is one of “investing” in local projects and forming partnerships with grantees. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
